Future Classes

Here are some of the classes that we will be scheduling in 2009:

Four Class Series

Cordon Bloke: Basic Cooking for Blokes

Do you live on takeaways and pizza with the occasional sausage for a change? How about a cooking class for blokes designed to help you plan, prepare and cook quick, easy and tasty meals for you and your friends? This is a series of four cooking classes aimed at men. (Hey, you girls can come too, but be warned, it might be just a bit blokey, because those blokes of yours really do need to learn how to cook!) The aim of the class is to have fun, learn some kitchen skills and gain confidence while enjoying great food.

Enjoying The Good Life

You know a little about cooking, but you want to extend your skills to be the confident entertainer. This is the class for you! In this four week class we will explore how to put together a Dinner Party, a Picnic, a Barbecue or a Brunch. You will learn how to put together a menu, how to give it the ‘wow’ factor but not be a slave to the kitchen and how to make the whole function enjoyable — for you as well as your friends.

Cooking Delicious(ly)

Many of us buy the foodie magazines. But do we really use them well? In this class we will cook as many recipes as we can over a month using the current Delicious magazine as our guide. After this four week class, you will be confident to exploit to the full those foodie magazines that you buy. And if you don’t buy the magazines, here is a great way to learn how to expand your cooking horizons without spending a lot of money on cooking books.

Cosmopolitan Cooking

In Australia, we are so lucky to have such great produce. There are so many influences on what we eat. From Thai to Italian, from Greek to Moroccan, the choices are endless. In this four week class, we will sample dishes from a number of countries, learning how to be truly international in our cooking, but at all times keeping it simple and manageable. Impress you friends at how cosmopolitan you are!

Winter Comfort

When the weather gets cold, it is a great time for those hearty braises and stews. And what about winter puddings? It is time for slow cooking and sticky eating! In this class we will prepare some wonderful winter warming soups. We will learn about braises – beef, lamb, chicken and fish. We will look at how to gain maximum flavour by using good stocks and marinades. And it is time for those wonderful root vegetables. We won’t be forgetting desserts, either. We will also cook some great winter sweets.

Quick and Light!

With summer upon us, the beach and outdoor activities loom. You want to look good, eat lightly and enjoy the summer food. This class will feature tasty and enjoyable food that is good for you and keeps those kilos in check.

After Work During the Week

You have finished work and its mid-week. You want to eat well but not be a slave to the kitchen. And you don’t want to get into the rut of the same old pasta or grill. In this class you will learn how to make quick meals for you, your family or your friends that are tasty and exciting but do not require extra shopping or exotic ingredients beyond the pantry. You will learn how to shop and build a pantry such that good eating is always at hand.

A Mediterranean Journey

The ‘Mediterranean diet’ is widely regarded as one of the tastiest and healthiest diets around. And the climate is the same as WA’s, so it is no accident that Mediterranean foods can be so exciting for us Western Australians. However, the Mediterranean stretches from Spain and Morocco in the West to Turkey and Lebanon in the East, with France, Italy, Greece, Tunisia and Egypt in between. And don’t forget those islands such as Cyprus and Malta. The variety of food is nearly endless. In this journey we will cook some old favourites and the more unusual dishes that can be found around the shores of the Med. It is sure to be a tasty and adventurous journey!

Two in the Kitchen: An Introduction

Cooking can be a whole lot of fun when shared with someone else! But it takes team work and a shared view of what is to be done. In this class, you and your partner/friend will learn how to make great meals for you and your friends. This class will introduce you and your partner to the basics of cooking by exploring easy modern Australian dishes that are so tasty that you will be proud to share them with your friends and show off your new skills. (And for those couples who already know the basics and want something more challenging, keep an eye out for the May schedule. We haven’t forgotten you!)
